Color Management
Like any great VFX shot, it all starts with the basics. We'll be walking through the ingesting process and explaining color management so we can set ourselves up for success no matter what codec, gamut, or file type comes our way. We will be working with the linear rec 709 colorspace.
Camera Tracking
I fell in love with VFX when I camera tracked my first shot. Over the years I've developed many methods to wrestle with a tough track. We'll be taking a look at this shot and making sure to take into account things like lens distortion and camera data to perfectly match the movement of the camera.
CGI
There wouldn't be green screen without some CGI. We're going to breaking up our CGI into multiple EXR layers so we can maintain the maximum flexibility in the compositing process. This will lead to better, more realistic results especially for this shot.
Compositing
Compositing can be scary, but it doesn't have to be. We'll break down compositing into many different chunks throughout this course in order to dive into every aspect. From keying, multi-pass CG compositing, and post processing, we go through everything to make a shot truly wow.
Coloring
Now that we've combined everything in the compositing phase, we are ready to transform the shot back to the proper color management and do some grading. This is the part of the process that really makes your shot go from 100 to 110% and can really change the mood of a shot.

FAQ
-
When will the course be launched?
As part of the release process, we will be offering a pre-order window starting March 12th and I plan for the full course to go live around March 27th. An advantage of this approach is allowing onboarding for things like the private community and to start creating a sense of engagement before the course goes live. This also gives me time to solve problems if they arise before the course goes public making the process smooth for everyone.
-
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for high-beginner to intermediate level VFX artists who are looking to master Green Screen VFX.
-
What do I get with this course?
This course is a pre-recorded course with video lessons provided online accessed through this site. You will be given a few materials, however, you will be expected to have specific software and assets that you must purchase in addition to the course. I try to keep it to a minimum, but just know the software and assets I picked are used in the industry so you'll have a head start on industry practices. See the course requirements section for more details.
-
Can I get help if I get stuck?
Yes! There are many options provided to help you along your journey. Each of my courses has a discussions tab for each lesson where you can ask questions if you get stuck. Furthermore, if you need more advanced help, we offer a private community on discord where you can post images, share your screen, and troubleshoot with many different artists that are willing to help.
-
Do I need a powerful PC?
Unfortunately this course does require a rather robust machine to run. We will be rendering full CG scenes as well as some advanced compositing techniques that can quickly eat up resources. Check out the system requirements section for more details.
-
Do you offer refunds?
Yes, refunds can be requested through [email protected] but only for those that do not have more than 25% completion and within 30 days of the purchase date. Those who have pre-ordered will have 30 days after the launch of the course for refunds.
